Verification and Impersonation Policy

This policy explains Xiam's Expert/Verified status system, and our rules against impersonation.

1. Impersonation Is Prohibited

You may not:

• Create an account pretending to be another real person, brand, or organization without clearly identifying it as a fan, parody, or commentary account
• Use another person's name, photo, or likeness to deceive others about your identity
• Use AI-generated images, voices, videos, or other synthetic media to falsely represent yourself as another real person, organization, or authority figure
• Register usernames primarily to impersonate, block, extort, or mislead real persons, brands, organizations, or public figures
• Create fake accounts to harass, intimidate, or evade enforcement actions (see our Harassment and Hate Speech Policy and Spam and Platform Manipulation Policy)

Accounts impersonating public figures, deceased individuals, or organizations in a deceptive manner may be removed even if the impersonated person is not an active Xiam user.

Parody and Commentary

Clearly-labeled parody, satire, or commentary accounts are permitted, provided they do not attempt to genuinely deceive users into believing they are the real person, brand, or organization.

2. Expert and Verified Status

Xiam allows users to apply for "Expert" or "Verified" status, which is displayed as a badge on their profile.

• Verified Status indicates that Xiam has taken reasonable steps to confirm the account holder's identity.
• Expert Status indicates that Xiam has reviewed information suggesting expertise, experience, professional credentials, or recognized knowledge in a particular field.
• Applications are reviewed by Xiam, and may require supporting documentation (such as a photo ID or passport) to confirm identity or relevant expertise, submitted via the in-app verification flow
• Approval, denial, suspension, or revocation of Verified or Expert status is at Xiam's reasonable discretion and may be based on identity verification, authenticity concerns, policy violations, fraud prevention, public-interest considerations, or other factors relevant to maintaining the integrity of the verification system
• Identity documents submitted for verification are stored securely, accessed only by authorized personnel or service providers involved in the verification process, and deleted as soon as reasonably practicable after review, unless retention is required for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance, consistent with our Privacy Policy

No Endorsement

Verification or Expert status does not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, certification, or warranty by Xiam regarding a person's character, opinions, services, products, or professional competence.

3. Misuse of Verified/Expert Status

You may not:

• Falsely claim or imply you hold Expert or Verified status if you do not
• Use Expert or Verified status to deceive other users, including misrepresenting your credentials or qualifications beyond what was reviewed and approved
• Transfer or sell a Verified or Expert account to another person
• Use Verified or Expert status to commit fraud, impersonate professionals, solicit investments, provide unauthorized professional advice, or otherwise exploit the trust associated with the badge

4. Revocation

Xiam may revoke Expert or Verified status at any time, including where:

• We determine the status was obtained through false or misleading information
• The associated account violates our Community Guidelines or other policies
• The basis for the original verification (e.g., professional credential, identity) is no longer accurate or valid

Xiam reserves the right to reclaim usernames or revoke verification where necessary to prevent impersonation, protect public interest, or maintain the integrity of the verification system. Users whose badges are revoked or whose accounts are removed for impersonation may not create new accounts to evade enforcement actions.

5. Reporting

You can report suspected impersonation or misuse of Verified/Expert status using the in-app reporting tool. If you are a real person, brand, or organization being impersonated on Xiam, please identify yourself when reporting so we can prioritize review.

6. Enforcement

• Impersonation accounts are removed upon confirmation
• Repeated or malicious impersonation may result in permanent account ban
• Misuse of Verified/Expert status may result in badge revocation, account restriction, or ban depending on severity

7. Appeals

If your account or status was actioned and you believe this was a mistake, you can appeal through the process described in our Enforcement and Appeals Policy.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as Xiam's verification systems evolve. Material changes will be noted in-app.
