Data Retention and Deletion Policy
This policy explains how long Xiam retains different categories of data, what happens when you delete your account, and how to request deletion.
1. General Principle
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and protect the safety of our users and the public. We do not retain data indefinitely without purpose.
2. Retention by Data Category
| Category | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Account information (name, email, handle, bio) | While your account is active |
| Debate, Story, Discover, and comment content | While your account is active, or until you delete the specific content |
| Direct messages | While the conversation/account remains active, or until deleted by you (deletion by one participant does not delete the other participant's copy) |
| Analytics data (app usage, session activity) | Limited period tied to product improvement purposes, then aggregated or deleted |
| Crash and performance logs | Limited period sufficient for debugging, then deleted |
| Verification documents (ID/passport for Expert review) | Deleted as soon as reasonably practicable after the review is complete, unless retention is required for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance |
| Reports and enforcement records | Retained for safety and legal purposes, including detecting repeat violations, even after the reported content or account is removed |
| Content preserved for legal/safety investigations (e.g., CSAM reports, law enforcement requests) | Retained as required by applicable law, separate from normal deletion schedules |
| Device and security identifiers (App Check, fraud prevention) | Retained as necessary for security purposes |
3. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account.
When you delete your account:
- Your profile, debates, Stories, Discover content, and comments are removed from public visibility
- We begin deleting or anonymizing your personal information
- This process is not always instantaneous — deletion may take a reasonable period to fully propagate across our systems and backups
What Is Not Immediately Deleted
- Content shared by others: if another user reposted, screenshotted, or saved your content before deletion, we cannot remove copies outside our control
- Cached/shared links: previously generated shareable preview links (debate, profile, video) may continue to display cached information for a limited period until the cache expires
- Messages you sent to others: remain visible to the conversation participant unless they also delete the conversation
- Information subject to legal retention: content or account data preserved for an active investigation, legal request, or law enforcement matter is retained for as long as legally required, regardless of account deletion
- Backup data: Firestore backups (retained on a rolling 60-day daily / 30-day weekly schedule for disaster recovery) may contain deleted data until the relevant backup cycles out; this data is not accessible through normal product use
4. Requesting Data Access or Deletion Outside the App
If you need help with data access, correction, or deletion beyond what's available in-app, contact us at xiamformilo@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
5. Retention After Enforcement Actions
If your account is suspended or banned for a policy violation, we retain relevant account and content data for the period necessary to support the enforcement decision, any appeal, and applicable legal requirements, even if you would otherwise have deleted that data.
6. Changes
We may update this policy as Xiam's data practices evolve, including as we adopt new infrastructure or face new legal requirements. Material changes will be noted in-app and reflected in our Privacy Policy.
