Enforcement and Appeals Policy
This policy explains how Xiam enforces its Community Guidelines and related policies, and how you can appeal a decision you believe was made in error.
1. How We Detect Violations
- User reports: every post, comment, profile, Story, and message can be reported directly in the app
- Automated systems: AI-assisted scanning of uploaded photos and videos, and pattern-based detection of spam, manipulation, and abuse
- Human review: flagged content and reports are reviewed by Xiam
We may use a combination of automated systems and human review to detect and enforce violations of our policies. Automated systems assist moderation decisions but do not independently determine legal rights or make final determinations in all cases. Human review may occur depending on the severity, confidence level, and nature of the violation.
Enforcement decisions are intended to protect user safety, maintain the integrity of debate participation, and preserve confidence in the authenticity of platform interactions.
2. Enforcement Actions
Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

| Content removal | The specific violating content is removed |
| Distribution restriction | Content is removed from Discover/recommendations without being fully removed |
| Feature restriction | Temporary limits on specific features (e.g., messaging, commenting) |
| Temporary suspension | Account access is temporarily disabled |
| Permanent ban | Account is permanently disabled |
| Vote/metric invalidation | Debate votes or engagement metrics are invalidated where manipulation is found to have materially affected the outcome |
Xiam may temporarily restrict an account where we reasonably suspect account compromise, automated abuse, or unauthorized access. Where manipulation materially affects a debate outcome, Xiam may invalidate votes, remove artificial engagement, reset results, or declare the debate outcome void.
Where necessary to prevent imminent harm, Xiam may temporarily disable messaging, limit interactions, preserve information, or impose emergency restrictions before completing a full review.
3. Severity and Escalation
- Minor, first-time violations typically result in a warning or content removal
- Repeated violations result in escalating enforcement
- Severe violations — child sexual abuse material, credible threats of violence, terrorism-related content, and similarly serious harms — result in immediate permanent ban without warning, regardless of prior history
4. Notice
Where reasonably possible, we will notify you when enforcement action is taken against your content or account, and provide the general policy basis for that action. In some cases — particularly involving active investigations, legal requirements, or risk of further harm — we may take action without prior or contemporaneous notice.
5. Appeals
If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, you may appeal:
- Open the relevant notification or visit Settings → Appeals in the app
- Select the enforcement action you wish to appeal
- Provide an explanation of why you believe the action was incorrect
We will review appeals and respond within a reasonable timeframe — we aim to review appeals within 30 days, although complex cases may require additional time. Appeal review may be conducted by a different reviewer than the original decision where feasible.
Appeal Limitations
Xiam may deny restoration requests where the underlying violation was deliberate, coordinated, severe (such as confirmed CSAM, credible threats of violence, or terrorism-related content), or repeated. After reasonable review, Xiam may consider certain decisions final, particularly where violations involve severe harm, repeated abuse, fraud, or risks to child safety. Repeated, abusive, or bad-faith appeals may result in limitations on further appeals concerning the same enforcement action.
6. Evidence Preservation
We may preserve content, account information, reports, timestamps, and related metadata as reasonably necessary to investigate violations, comply with legal obligations, defend claims, and protect user safety.
7. Moderation Records
We maintain internal records of enforcement actions, including the content or report involved, the action taken, and the reviewer or system responsible, for accountability and audit purposes, and to detect repeat violations.
8. Changes
We may update this policy as Xiam's moderation systems and team grow. Material changes will be noted in-app.
